Meet Mandi!

I met my dad’s friend, Rainie, in 2017, who cured his throat cancer with diet alone while refusing surgery and chemo. I was shocked to learn that food could potentially cure dreaded diseases. 

It took me back to when I lost my mom to cancer in 2008. I kept asking myself “what could we have done to prevent this?”. If only someone had told me then that food could be the answer.

As a teenager I struggled with severe PMS and at 27 I was put on chronic cholesterol lowering drugs. Later I was also diagnosed with IBS and it was suggested that I should have part of my colon removed. I didn’t take any medicine for any of this, and I refused the surgery. It just felt unnatural, and I never liked the idea of taking pills for the rest of my life.

After hearing Rainie’s story, I started looking differently at food and learning how it can help our bodies to heal itself. 6 months after cutting out meat and dairy, I didn’t have PMS anymore. Since following a low fat, whole foods plant-based diet for a year, I had zero IBS symptoms and my cholesterol was down to below 6 (still not ideal but so much better).

But after changing my lifestyle and being more conscious about what I was eating, I was still struggling with my weight and just never had time to focus on myself. I was not sticking to my diet, not exercising at all, not even walking the dog, as I always said to myself that I couldn’t find the time in my schedule. It was during my training for a Health Coach, having to coach myself and being coached by others that I really started getting to know myself and to realize how important it can be to have someone to help you with lifestyle changes.
