This is my personal story and experience. Everyone’s health journey is unique, and I encourage you to work with your healthcare provider while exploring lifestyle changes.
In 2017, I met my dad’s friend, Rainie, who chose food and lifestyle changes instead of surgery and chemotherapy after being diagnosed with throat cancer. His remarkable recovery stunned me—it was the first time I realized just how powerful our daily choices could be.
It immediately took me back to 2008, when I lost my mom to cancer. For years I carried the question: “What could we have done differently? Could lifestyle changes have made a difference?”
Looking back, I see how much I struggled with my own health too. As a teenager, I battled painful, heavy periods and severe mood swings. It felt like I only had one “normal” week a month—without pain, tender breasts, or emotional ups and downs. At 27, I was prescribed chronic cholesterol-lowering medication. Later, I was diagnosed with IBS and even advised to have part of my colon removed. Something inside me resisted—I didn’t want to rely on pills or surgery for the rest of my life.
After hearing Rainie’s story, I began to look at my health differently—how food, stress, movement, and self-care all work together. Within six months of cutting out meat and dairy, my painful monthly symptoms disappeared. After a year on a low-fat, whole-food, plant-based diet, my cholesterol dropped, and my IBS symptoms were completely gone.
It was during my Health Coach training that things finally shifted. Being coached and coaching myself helped me see what I hadn’t realized before: real transformation doesn’t come from willpower alone. It comes from caring for yourself as a whole person—with the right support, encouragement, and accountability along the way.
Today, in 2025, I’m 15kg lighter and feel better than I did a decade ago. I move my body almost every day—sometimes it’s a jog, sometimes a walk, sometimes just stretching or doing something that feels good. Who would have thought I’d actually enjoy exercising?
My habits are no longer a struggle or a checklist. They’ve become part of who I am. I don’t have to question what works or what doesn’t—I live it. And honestly, I can’t imagine functioning any other way.
If a self-proclaimed couch potato like me can make these changes—and even learn to enjoy them—then so can you. Transformation doesn’t have to feel miserable or forced. With the right support, the change doesn’t just happen… it becomes you.
